Byetta May Be Linked to Pancreatitis

If you are using Byetta for your diabetes, please be aware that there are reports linking it to a severe condtion called “Pancreatitis”.

As long ago as October 2007 there were reports of this problem….21 patients hospitalized…none died.

Now, however, as of August 19, 2008,  there have been reports of 6 cases of Hemorrhagic or Necrotizing Pancreatitis, and 2 of the patients died.

The FDA has this advice for patients taking Byetta: Seek medical care promptly if you experience unexplained severe abdominal pain with or without nausea and vomiting.

According to the FDA the warning signs of pancreatitis include: persistent severe abdominal pain that can radiate to the back and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
